Different ways to stop smoking

Ways to stop smoking
Many of the 46 million American smokers are looking to quit smoking but some just are not strong enough to withstand the barrage of withdrawal symptoms that come with quitting smoking, especially those who have been smoking for a very long time. The health benefits of quitting are there for all to see. There is less of a risk of developing various forms of cancer and your lungs will not be as clogged up with tar as they otherwise would be if you continue smoking. Your personal hygiene will also improve because your hair, clothes and body will not smell so much of smoke anymore. In this article we will discuss two popular ways to stop smoking. For a more comprehensive review on the various ways to stop smoking you can read this article on how you can stop smoking.
One of the main ways to stop smoking is by using nicotine replacement therapy. Nicotine replacement therapy simply refers to using other products which are not cigarettes and which do not contain other damaging properties of cigarettes in order to get your nicotine fix. This ensures that any withdrawal symptoms are minimal and you can stop smoking cigarettes because you will be getting a steady dose of nicotine throughout the day. One advantage of using NRT products is that you avoid the other damaging substances which come from smoking tobacco. These include tar. One of the several disadvantages of using this method is that there are quite a number of side-effects which have been linked to using NRT. Some of these side-effects include horrible nightmares and sleep walking.
Another way to stop smoking is by simply quitting and choosing to remain sober. This is known as the cold turkey method of quitting smoking. Cold turkey refers to a simple and sudden withdrawal from using a certain drug which in this case is nicotine. One obvious advantage of quitting using this method is that it is free. You do not have to purchase anything from anyone in order to quit this way. This is assuming that you remain off cigarettes though. One disadvantage of quitting this way is that the withdrawal symptoms are almost unbearable for the first 8 weeks. Some of the withdrawal symptoms include anxiety, irritability and in some cases depression. These symptoms lead to failure and relapse most of the time.
